One of the new Amperex series of “preferred” type tubes for high-quality audio applications, originally developed by Philips of the Netherlands, the EL84/6BQ5 is designed for the output stages of low-distortion amplifiers with relatively low-voltage power supplies. A pair in push-pull will deliver 17 watts at 4 per cent harmonic distortion (without feedback) in class AB operation with only 300 volts B + supply.

Plate dissipation is 12 watts, which is achieved in a miniature envelope only slightly taller than that of conventional miniatures used exclusively as voltage amplifiers. Detailed data and applications engineering information are available from Special Purpose Tube Devision, Amperex Electronic Corp., 230 Duffy Ave., Hicksville, N. Y. (October 1957)
